Preview: Leganes Vs Real Madrid

Los Pepineros to host Los Blancos for Copa del Rey fixture.

Leganes are all ready to face Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey 2024-25 quarter-final at home. This is going to be a big game for both sides. Leganes secured a win over Almeria and made their way into the quarterfinals of Copa del Rey. On the other hand, Real Madrid dominated Celta Vigo and carved their way into the final eight.

Leganes are coming in after facing a defeat over Rayo Vallecano in their last fixture. It was a league fixture where Leganes have previously taken down teams like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. The hosts might pull off another upset of the season here. They have defended well against the top teams. The match against Real Madrid is going to be a tough challenge for Leganes.

Real Madrid were doing well but suddenly lost their LaLiga game against Espanyol. Even after having the ball with them for the majority of the minutes they failed to score a goal. They have one of the strongest attacks in the league with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo in the front. Still, they failed to score and dropped three points. Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be slightly low on confidence.

About Copa del Rey:

History

The Campeonato de España–Copa de Su Majestad el Rey, commonly known as Copa del Rey, La Copa or (in English) the Spanish Cup, and formerly known as Copa del Presidente de la República (1932–36) and Copa del Generalísimo (1939–76), is an annual knockout football competition in Spanish football, organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

The competition was founded in 1903, thus making it the oldest Spanish football competition played at a national level. Copa del Rey winners qualify for the following season's UEFA Europa League. If they have already qualified for Europe through their league position, then the Europa League spot is given to the highest-placed team in the league who has not yet qualified (until 2014 this place was awarded to the Copa runners-up, unless they too had already qualified via the league).

Barcelona is the most successful club in the competition, having won 31 titles. Athletic Bilbao has the second-most wins with 24, while Real Madrid is third with 20. Athletic Bilbao is also the most recent winner, having defeated Mallorca in the 2024 final held at the Estadio de La Cartuja..
