About Concacaf Champions Cup.
The Concacaf Champions Cup (formerly known as the Concacaf Champions League) is the premier club football competition in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, organized by Concacaf (the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football). It determines the best club team in the region and grants the winner a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.
History & Format
Founded: 1962
Rebranded: The tournament was known as the Concacaf Champions League from 2008 to 2023 before reverting to the Concacaf Champions Cup name in 2024.
Participants: 27 clubs qualify through domestic leagues, cup competitions, or regional tournaments.
Knockout Format: The tournament follows a home-and-away knockout format, leading up to a single-match final.
Qualification
Teams qualify from different leagues and competitions, including:
Major League Soccer (MLS)
Liga MX (Mexico)
Central American clubs (from leagues such as Costa Rica’s Liga FPD, Honduras' Liga Nacional, etc.)
Caribbean clubs (via the Caribbean Cup)
Canadian teams (via the Canadian Championship)
Leagues Cup (MLS vs. Liga MX competition)
Recent & Historical Champions
Club América (Mexico) holds the record for most titles.
Recent winners: Mexican and MLS clubs have dominated in recent years.
